Review Russian Lens 2-50 50mm F1.2 Converted M4-3

The PO-109-1A Russian Lens is a truly unique and impressive addition to any Micro Four Thirds (M4/3) camera system. This lens, originally designed for 35mm film cameras, undergoes a meticulous conversion process to adapt it to the M4/3 format, resulting in a versatile and high-performance optic.

The PO-16-250mm f/1.2 conversion gives this lens an impressive 16mm to 250mm focal length range, providing an ultra-wide angle of view at the 16mm end, and a powerful telephoto capability at the 250mm end. This makes it an ideal choice for a variety of photographic scenarios, from landscape and architecture to wildlife and sports photography.

The lens features a maximum aperture of f/1.2, which is exceptionally fast, allowing for shallow depth of field effects, excellent low-light performance, and enhanced creative control over your images. The f/1.2 aperture also allows for incredible bokeh, resulting in beautiful, dreamy backgrounds.

The PO-109-1A is a manual focus lens, which can be a charming and rewarding aspect for many photographers, as it encourages a more deliberate and thoughtful approach to composition. The lens has a manual aperture ring and a focus ring, both of which are smooth and responsive for precise control.

The lens is constructed from high-quality materials, including all-metal barrel, providing a solid, durable feel. It also features a built-in lens hood, which helps to protect the lens from light flare and damage.

The PO-109-1A Russian Lens is a must-have for any photographer looking to expand their creative horizons and add a truly unique lens to their collection. Its impressive focal length range, fast aperture, and manual focus make it a versatile and capable tool for any photography situation.

Pros of buying a PO-109-1A Russian lens (16-250mm f/1.2, converted to M4/3):

1. Wide focal length range: The 16-250mm focal length covers a wide range, from wide-angle to telephoto, making it a versatile lens for various photography scenarios.

2. Fast aperture: The f/1.2 maximum aperture allows for excellent low-light performance and shallow depth of field for creative bokeh effects.

3. Affordable price: Compared to other high-quality lenses with similar specifications, the PO-109-1A is relatively affordable, making it an attractive option for photographers on a budget.

4. Manual focus: The manual focus ring allows for precise control over focus, which can be particularly useful for certain types of photography, such as macro or landscape.

5. Distinctive look and feel: The lens has a unique and distinctive appearance, which can add to the character of your photographs.

Cons of buying a PO-109-1A Russian lens (16-250mm f/1.2, converted to M4/3):

1. Build quality: The build quality of the lens is not as high as some other lenses in its class, which can make it less durable and more prone to damage.

2. Autofocus performance: The manual focus ring is the only focus mechanism, which means that autofocus is not available. This can make it more challenging to use in certain situations, such as fast-moving subjects or low light conditions.

3. Compatibility issues: The lens may not be compatible with all M4/3 cameras, and some users have reported issues with lens mounts and electronic connections.

4. Image quality: While the lens has some impressive features, such as the wide focal length range and fast aperture, it may not produce the same level of image quality as some other lenses in its class.

Conclusion:

The PO-109-1A Russian lens is a versatile and affordable option for photographers looking for a wide-angle to telephoto lens with a fast aperture. While it has some drawbacks, such as build quality and autofocus performance, it can be a great choice for photographers on a budget or for those who value manual focus and a unique appearance. Ultimately, whether or not the PO-109-1A is the right lens for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences as a photographer.

Recommendation:

If you're looking for a versatile lens with a fast aperture and a wide focal length range, the PO-109-1A Russian lens is worth considering. However, be aware of its limitations, such as build quality and autofocus performance, and do your research to ensure that it will be compatible with your M4/3 camera. If you value high-quality build and autofocus performance, you may want to consider investing in a more expensive lens.

Details:

This ring slips over the lens base and into std m39 adapter. Takes great shots in low light and the bike is super soft depth of field almost zero, see sample photo. I converted this for m4 3 use by using a unmodified m39 adapter and custom trim ring turned from Deleon.

Comes with the original box and instructions in russian. Good luck buying.

I am including the unmodified m39 adapter, custom trim ring and both caps, front back. Why am I selling: built this lens for my Olympus and used it until gave the camera to son. I have a metal lathe so was able to trim the back of lens tube achieve near focus on my Orly.

When you turn the set screws it locks in mounting adapter. This lens is in great shape for its age. Note that this is a fixed focus lens close photos only with aperture of f1.

These lenses are described as best I can. This is an old russian projector ultra fast lens.

He did not want any manual lenses. The metal and glass are soviet clean QC was not a strong point of optics plants but photos taken with this lens show no issues.
